I am drawn to photography in memory of my father, Patrick Kennedy. Fond childhood memories revolve around Daddy’s slide show presentations. It was more exciting than a movie theatre because WE were the stars on Daddy’s big projection screen! His latest shots of local landscapes, flowers, trains, windmills, and family photos were received and welcomed as our favorite way to spend a special evening. The atmosphere was charged as Daddy set up the equipment and gathered us into the living room for the dimming of the lights. We would laugh, poke fun, reminisce, and applaud the man who kept us together with his photographic legacy.
My brother, Stephan followed in Dad’s footsteps. He encourages me to keep “shooting” as he graciously answers my camera questions. I recently purchased a new digital camera, the Sony A700, because I am able to use some of Dad’s old Minolta 35 mm lenses on this camera. I like the idea of combining the old and the new. I feel Daddy with me as I shoot. Thanks, Daddy, for inspiring me, and thanks Stephan, for being his voice to me in the here and now.
